This is Geography is a new three-part series which engages your Key Stage 3 pupils with an active-learning, enquiry-based approach. The course offers an inspiring route through the Programme of Study.

What the author, John Widdowson, has to say about the course:

'This is Geography is the course that I have always wanted to write. ... Instead of being a slave to content, I have focused on the sort of geography that young teenagers are really interested in and ask the sort of questions they actually ask.

Less content, more learning! I've written many resources before which have been successful, but this is the course I'd most want to teach.'

And teachers agree:

'This book really captured our attention and imagination. It presents familiar material from a refreshing new perspective and has become integral to our new KS3 Schemes of Work.'

A Campbell, Geography teacher

'I am a passionate geographer and I have always believed in the enquiry-based approach. Imagine my delight to discover such a like-minded series of textbooks and teacher’s resources which work! It is modern and inventive, leaving no stone unturned in its quest to present a comprehensive package.

I am impressed this is not the ‘same old same old’ regurgitated in a slightly different form, it is exciting geography. My job is done for me – what more could a busy geography teacher ask for?

About the author
John Widdowson's
current project is running innovative fieldwork courses for the Field Studies Council's (FSC) 2012 Olympic study centre in Stratford, teaching at the View Tube classroom.

His courses are based around the London Olympics and the regeneration of the area. Chapter 5 in This is Geography 3 gets pupils to put together their own Olympic bid.

Here's a photo of John at the Olympic Park viewing platform, on top of a tower block, leading one of his FSC courses. I attended one of his courses and wrote a blog post here.
