Geography Pathways - Key Stage 3 for Northern Ireland

Authors: Anne Fegan, Peter Corr and Stephen Roulston

A book-per-year course that makes teaching and learning geography relevant, engaging and progressive. Each book addresses the pedagogy of the revised curriculum and has been written especially for Northern Ireland, to contextualise pupils' knowledge and understanding.

The series highlights the pupil-centred approach of the revised curriculum by providing opportunities for developing students as individuals and as contributors to society, the economy and the environment.
  • A thematic approach to learning enables pupils to develop ideas and skills using relevant, real-life contexts to which they can refer
  • Get Active! tasks promote understanding through progressive thinking and learning strategies, using the five revised curriculum-defined skill categories for research: managing information, decision-making, demonstrating creativity, teamwork and self-management, in addition to map-work and enquiry skills
  • Extension activities, including weblinks, to develop a deeper understanding of concepts by providing further opportunities for research
  • A 'Geography in the News' chapter and issue-based enquiries provide opportunities for coursework and fieldwork, using a range of methods for undertaking geographical investigation
